Electro-Harmonix, a pioneering company in the sound effects pedal industry since 1968, has created an app that faithfully recreates their analog cult-classic The MINI-SYNTHESIZER from around 1980.

Available for iPad and iPhone (iOS version 15.0 or later), the EHX MINI-SYNTHESIZER accurately reproduces all the vintage synth sounds of the original model with modern updates.

The MINI-SYNTHESIZER app comes with 25 presets and allows users to store almost an unlimited number of custom presets. It also includes Audiobus capabilities.

The MINI-SYNTHESIZER offers intuitive, flexible, and powerful control through its 12 sliders and nine switches. Here’s a breakdown of the user interface:

• OSC Section:
  • PITCH slider: Raises or lowers the pitch of the note by +/- 1 octave
  • SUB-OCTAVE slider: Introduces a note one octave below what's being played
  • OCTAVE UP switch: Causes the note being played to jump up one octave
  • TUNE knob: Allows tuning to other instruments and sound sources over a +/- 50 cents range
• FILTERS Section:
  • PHASE RATE slider
  • FILTER START setting
  • FILTER STOP setting
  • SWEEP RATE control
  • PHASE switch (on/off)
  • 2X FILTER switch (parallel or series)
  • Q switch (resonance)
  • RETRIGGER switch (on/off)
• DELAY Section:
  • TIME slider adjusts delay time up to two seconds
  • FEEDBACK control for echo repeats
  • BLEND control mixes original signal with echo repeats

  • Tap tempo functionality by tapping on TIME label

  • AMOUNT slider adjusts reverb effect level

LIMITATIONS:

1. InterApp Audio may encounter periodic crashes and graphics issues.
2. The MINI SYNTH operates at a sample rate of 48 kHz; using it in a 44.1 kHz environment like Garageband for iOS could cause aliasing.
3. Saved presets in the standalone app cannot be accessed when using the MINI SYNTH as an AudioUnit, and vice versa.
